PLATEAU SOCCER CLUB ASKS FOR LONGER OPERATING PERIOD
Justin Cook with the Plataeu Soccer Club requested the Crossville City Council during their work session on Tuesday to increase the operational time of Dr. Carl T. Duer, Sr. Soccer Complex by roughly six weeks.
“Currently the hours go from Daylight Savings Time to Daylight Savings Time,” Cook said. “Meaning they close November 3rd this year, and they’ll reopen March 10th of next year. Our proposal would be just to expand those operating hours. Preferably to open Valentine’s Day and then close the week of Thanksgiving.”
The reason for the request is so the field’s operating months will fit more with the soccer season.
“That would expand those hours to be more in line with what soccer actually utilizes field space for,” Cook said. “Games, and Practices, things like that. In competitive soccer environments, it’s very challenging to find places to play, train, and prepare to compete in those leagues and tournaments. It’s an inhibiting factor.”
Cook gave a sheet to the council with information on soccer leagues and the dates they run.
In addition to the expanding operating time, Cook also requested the construction of a storage facility on the field that can be used by multiple leagues, and also provide a space to train new referees, as well as the creation of a deadline to request the field for the season in advance.
Since the request is multi-faceted, including budgetary and planning concerns, the request will not be placed on the city’s agenda for next week’s meeting. The items under the request will be considered and discussed in January.
