POLICE: MARYVILLE WOMAN WITH LARGE AMOUNT OF ECSTASY PILLS ARRESTED FOLLOWING CAR ACCIDENT

Blount County Sheriff James Lee Berrong said deputies and investigators with the Fifth Judicial Drug Task Force arrested a Maryville woman after reportedly finding a large amount of ecstasy pills in her vehicle following a car crash.

Deputies took 23-year-old Bethany Autumn Hatcher into custody last night. Hatcher was booked into the Blount County Correctional Facility on bonds totaling $37,000. She is charged with DUI and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance (ecstasy) for resale.

Officers responded to a vehicle crash on Lanier Crossroads. The driver, Bethany Hatcher, appeared to be under the influence of an intoxicant. She told deputies that a dog ran out in front of her, causing her to run off the roadway. While deputies were inventorying Hatcher’s vehicle prior to it being towed, they reportedly found 145 ecstasy pills in clear baggies inside of her vehicle. Investigators with the Fifth Judicial Drug Task Force arrived and seized the ecstasy pills. They will be sent to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for further testing.

The sheriff’s department said ecstasy pills sell anywhere from $20 and $30 per tablet on the street, and the street value of the seized ecstasy is between $2,900 and $4,350.
