POWER TRANSFORMER CAUSES MACON COUNTY SCHOOL EVACUATION

A blown power transformer caused the evacuation of a school in Macon County today around 10:45 a.m.
The Macon County Schools’ official Facebook page posted a status which read:
“Due to suspected gunfire in close proximity to one of Macon County Schools, all schools are on current lockdown. We cannot release any more information at this time. All students are currently safe and schools will be on lockdown until further notice.”
Within the hour, however, an all-clear would be given and school resumed as normal. The update posted reads as:
“The all clear has been given. After investigation, it has been determined that a high voltage transformer blew causing what sounded like gunfire. We are resuming our daily schedule. We understand that this has been very stressful but we have to respond to every possible threat immediately. The safety of your children and our staff is the most important thing to us.”
