A proposed bill in Tennessee that would have legalized medical marijuana has failed to pass in the state Senate.

The Senate Judiciary Committee considered the “Tennessee Medical Cannabis Act.” They chose not to move forward with it after concerns about its constitutionality.

Had it passed, access to medical marijuana would have been restricted to those with cancer, chronic pain or several other conditions such as glaucoma and epilepsy as well as people with terminal conditions.

Tennesseans and caregivers 18 and up who qualify would have been able to apply for a medical cannabis card that would be good for two years. They would have been required to submit an application with a $65 fee alongside medical records confirming the patient’s diagnosis.
