RAIN TOTALS FROM LAST NIGHT

Post placeholder image

The rainfall totals across Middle Tennessee were pretty incredible on Sunday with over 6 inches near Gallatin, Carthage and Springfield. 3 to 4 inches were common from Sparta the Livingston with 4 and 1/2 in Byrdstown.Totals across Cumberland County were generally 2 to 3 inches. March kicks off our severe weather season in Tennessee and it increases more as we get into April and May. Wednesday night is the anniversary of last year’s violent EF-4 tornado that killed 19 people in Putnam County and the wind was estimated between 170 and 200 miles per hour in the tornado. That is a night that I will never forget, I was in the office broadcasting all night and I could not believe the intensity of that tornado as it approached Cookeville. A weaker tornado touched down later that night in the extreme North part of Cumberland County south of Rinnie. We have a rain system coming Tuesday night with temperatures in the 30s so it will be a cold rain. A mostly dry pattern is expected to set in from Wednesday afternoon through the weekend with highs in the 40s & 50s and lows in the upper 20s.
