Red Bank police officer James “Chip” Smith was killed after his wife, 37-year-old Melissa Smith, allegedly shot him yesterday in Sevierville. James Smith was shot in the abdomen and was transported to U.T. Medical Center where he passed away. Melissa Smith was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. The couple was from Soddy Daisy, Tennessee. The investigation is still ongoing and a motive for the shooting has not been released.
