RESPIRATORY VIRUS CASES AT HIGH LEVEL IN TENNESSEE

The Centers for Disease Control says levels of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are rising in the South.

Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama are all designated at a “high” level.

Officials say emergency department visits are up for RSV, COVID-19, influenza, and a combination of all three.

Symptoms of RSV include runny nose, a decrease in appetite, coughing, sneezing, running a fever, and wheezing

In young children, the only symptoms can be irritability, decreased activity, and breathing difficulties.

You can prevent the spread of RSV by getting vaccinated, staying home when you are sick, covering your coughs and sneezes, washing your hands often, avoiding touching your face, avoiding close contact with others, and cleaning frequently touched surfaces.
