Rex Maynard Mitchell, 77

Rex Maynard Mitchell was born April 5, 1949 in Dogwood, Tennessee to Herman and Sherdie Kemmer Mitchell. Rex defined the word “laborer”, always working hard at something. In the early 1970s, Rex signed on with Cumberland Valley Shows which ran local carnivals. He traveled with them for three years, going all over the South. In 1976, he moved to Dalton, Georgia, and while working in a carpet mill, met the love of his life, Martha Mantooth. They were together seven years until her death. Rex eagerly helped anyone who needed it. He loved women, eating, and laughing. Rex is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herman Jr. (Doris) and Bob Mitchell; sister, Janie Kirby; and nephew, Brier Wightman. He is survived by his sister, Bertha (Bob) England; brothers, David (Ginger), Charlie (Jeri), and Jym Mitchell; along with many beloved nieces & nephews; former sisters-in-law, Carol and Vickie; as well as friends from everywhere he went. A gathering of friends will be held on September 4, 2026 from 4 to 6pm at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. The interment will be a private service in Mitchell Family Cemetery at a later date.
