Officials say Roane County High School sophomore Lucas Hinds and third-grade homeschooler Wesley Martin won $1,000 college scholarships, respectively, in a competition held across the state in the Tristar Reads contest.

The contest encouraged students to read over the summer.

Hinds won the high school division, reading for 29,155 minutes.

Martin logged 15,271 minutes over the summer.
