Robert George, 74

Robert “Bobby George” went home to be with the Lord on January 6, 2026. He was born on May 1, 1951, to Alton and Ruth George.

Bobby graduated from White House High School in 1970. On June 11, 1971, he married the love of his life, Barbara. Together they built a life marked by faith, hard work, and deep devotion to family. For more than five decades, Barbara stood by his side as his partner, best friend, and greatest blessing.

A member of the Church of God of Prophecy, Bobby lived out his faith not just in words, but in how he treated people every day. He owned and operated grocery stores for several years, he believed in honest work, fair dealings, and taking care of his customers . When he eventually sold his store, it marked the end of a season of faithful service to people he had grown to love like family.

Bobby had a special place in his heart for children. He loved kids deeply and spent countless hours “working” at Clyde Riggs Elementary School, where he volunteered regularly. He made it his mission to make sure the kids were cared for—and whenever possible, he made sure they were given candy, taking every opportunity to bring a smile to their faces.

He also loved Camp Hickory Hills, which felt like a second home to him. Every summer, Bobby could be found serving wherever he was needed as a cabin leader, dean, concession stand operator, or in his favorite role, head cook. He was known for overfeeding the kids and then sneaking food out to them after chapel services, believing no child should ever leave hungry. His love, humor, and generosity left a lasting mark on generations of campers.

Bobby. He loved working on computers, then braking them and asking his grandkids to get him back online. He never hesitated to lend a hand and quietly served wherever there was a need, there is no telling how many people in the community he has helped get back in their feet.

Above all else, He loved his family deeply and especially his grandchildren, who he called sweet doll and cowboy. They were the light of his later years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara George; his son, Robby George Jr. (Beth); his cherished grandchildren, Hayley and Elijah George; his brothers, Doug George (Aneta) and Alton George Jr. (Laura); and his sister, Cathy Jones.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Portland Church of God of Prophecy, located at 820 College Street, Portland, Tennessee 37148 with Bishop Ricky Graves and Bishop Robert George Jr officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at New Hall Cemetery.

Bobby will be remembered for his steady faith, strong work ethic, love for children, and the quiet, generous way he showed care to everyone he met. His legacy lives on through the family he loved and the countless lives he touched.
