Ronald Joseph Hays, 79
Ronald Joseph Hays, born on September 26, 1946, in Southampton, NY, went home to be with our Lord on February 26, 2026. Ronald, according to his family, was “larger than life.” A man of integrity, honor, and unparalleled dedication, he left an indelible mark on the lives of everyone he encountered.
Ronald spent the majority of his career serving our country in the Army as a Military Policeman (winning the prestigious Legion of Merit), Nurse Recruiter in Hawaii (for which he won a coveted award) and Federal Law Enforcement, overseeing the northern border in the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), but primarily as one of the first Federal Security Directors for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), all roles he performed with exceptional courage and commitment. Ronald traveled the world, but chose to settle in Crossville, TN, spending his golden years surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the Cumberland Plateau.
Ronald’s strong and guiding character is perpetuated through his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Desiree Hays, who was his friend, travel companion, and source of constant support. His legacy continues through his dedicated son, Danny Hays, and step-sons, Ethan Allen and Nicholas Natale. Fondly known as “Grumpy,” Ronald is also survived by his grandchildren, Laurana Blackthorn, Coriayn Allen, Mackenzie Bennett, Mckayla Bennett, Jayden Hemphill, and Nicholas Natale II. They are all a testament to Ronald’s unwavering love and guidance, carrying forward the values instilled by him. Ronald’s siblings, Janine (Chris) Roth, Patty Ambrosone; Sidney Hays Jr., and Carol (Kim) Fessler, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, hold individual thoughtful memories. Ronald was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy Pulver Hays and Sidney Hays, and his sister-in-law, Kathy Hays. Each of them held a special place in Ronald’s heart, and their memories will be forever cherished.
Ronald’s life, filled with generosity, bravery, and resilience, will remain an inspiration for all. His humorous sarcasm, infectious laughter, and spirit of service will be deeply missed, yet they continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. As we remember Ronald, we invite you to share your cherished memories, tributes, and photographs on the memorial page. This will enable us all to celebrate Ronald’s remarkable life, honor his accomplishments, and remember him fondly.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 1:00 PM CST. Military Honors will follow immediately after the service.
