He also held a special place in his heart for two dear friends, Mike Baines and Wayne Byron, whom he loved like sons. He cherished the bond they shared throughout the years.
A devoted outdoorsman, Roy Wade found great joy in the mountains. As a young man, his favorite hobbies were casting a fishing line in Greasy Creek or walking through the woods hunting deer and turkey all throughout Sarvas Flats and Landrum Mtn. Spending time in the mountains brought him adventure and countless memories that he cherished throughout his life. He was always ready to tell a story from the mountains or a fishing tale to friends and loved ones.
In his golden years, nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with his children and grandchildren. Some of their most cherished memories were made on the lake aboard his pontoon boat “WetFeet”. Whether he was giving fishing lessons, pulling the kids on the tube, or tied up in a cove swimming, those moments reflected the joy he found in being surrounded by the people he loved most.
For over 40 years, he proudly served as a Lineman/Foreman at Pike and TVA, a career that was far more than a job—it was a calling. He took great pride in his work, helping keep the lights on for countless families and communities in many states over the years. He worked around the clock to restore power on storms, such as the blizzard of ’93 and Hurricane Helene. His TVA coworkers were more than colleagues; they were family. The friendships he built over decades, being a lineman, remained some of the most treasured relationships of his life.
The streams, lakes, and mountains were his sanctuary on earth; Heaven is now his forever home. Though he has left this earthly life to be with our Lord and Savior, his memory lives on in every mountain sunrise, every turkey and deer in the woods, and every cherished memory shared by those who loved him dearly.
