Scott Miller Bond, 44

Funeral Services for Scott Miller Bond, age 44, of Crossville, TN, will be held on Monday, November 29, 2021 at 1:00 PM at the Chapel at Bilbrey Funeral Home.  Family will receive friends on Sunday, November 28, 2021 from 2:00 until 4:00 PM at the Chapel at Bilbrey Funeral Home.

Scott Miller Bond came into this world on Thursday, January 27, 1977 and he left for Heaven on a Thursday, November 25, 2021.   A phrase in the Old English nursery rhyme states that “Thursday’s Child has far to go.” Modern interpretations sometimes associate the phrase with children having special needs or setbacks in life. All who know and love Scott know, without a doubt, that Thursday’s Child described him perfectly. One biblical interpretation for the name Scott is a traveler; indeed Scott liked “to go” and “go” was one clearly spoken word in his limited vocabulary.

Scott graduated from Cumberland County High School with a Special Education Diploma May 1999. His Principal Paul Hodge along with Scott’s teachers George Kington and Peggy Paquett, teaching associates Kim Davenport, Anita Bowman, Sue Vandorn, Charlene Starnes, Linda Potter, former teachers Karen Kerley, Shella Rimmer and bus driver Sue Elmore coordinated a private graduation ceremony for Scott and his family. Teachers and classmates lovingly remember Scott as being a happy, enthusiastic, loud and mischievous student who loved pep rallies and fire drills.  Scott also possessed an infectious belly laugh and would often heehaw when someone was telling a good story about he and his brother.

Scott lived with his parents Glenda and Randy Bond and ‘bubba’ Michael until 2009 when he and Bubba moved into Harrison House, a four- person residence managed by Hilltopper’s Inc. in Crossville. The late George Harrison and Jackie Haley along with Scott and Michael were the original Harrison House residents. The property was donated by Bonnie and Bill Harrison, George’s parents. Through the years, the four housemates have been cared for by a dedicated staff of direct service professionals and nurses including Kim Coia, Kelly Jackson, Linda Potter, Gary Carey, Emily Begley, Betsy Hively Sheldon, Dana Evans, Joan A. Sheehan, Levi Brady, Chris Sass, Penny Smith, Michele Miller and Donna Gentry. His care givers fondly recall that Scott loved to be sung to when taking a shower. He especially liked the song “You are My Sunshine” and would shake with laughter when it was sung off key.

Scott looked forward to summer and warm weather when he could bask in the sunshine in his patio pool just outside his room. Going down the water slide with Jeanene Houston, Hilltopper’s Director, at the Hilltopper’s annual camp at the 4-H training facility was always a special treat. Scott enjoyed The Arc Cumberland County Special Olympics events and always took home a blue ribbon in tunnel crawl. Scott clutched Barney, the purple dragon doll, in one hand along with a handful of grass in the other whenever he was on the go. Scott could also seen cruising on the streets of Crossville with Josh Green in Lourdes Dunaway’s (Scott’s music teacher) red convertible.

Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents, Glenn and Anna Mae Miller and Bob Bond, and uncle Steve Bond.  He is survived by his parents, Glenda and Randy Bond, his bubba Michael, grandmother Christine Bond, uncle and aunt Lynn and Anita Smith, aunt Dianne Bond, a host of cousins, special family friend and chauffeur Josh Green and his extended Hilltopper’s family.

In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored to receive gifts to establish the Scott Miller Bond Scholarship, a designated fund of the Cumberland County United Fund, 348 Taylor Street, Suite 101, Crossville, TN 38555.
