Sherrie Annette McGhee, 59

Sherrie Annette McGhee, age 59,  of Oliver Springs, Tn passed away Tuesday February 4, 2025 at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, Tn. after a lengthy illness.

Born at the Methodist Medical Center and raised in the Coalfield Community, Sherrie thought that her father Cecil Elbert Jackson was the greatest among men. He taught her how to live and that the key to life is trusting in the Lord. He and she both enjoyed feeding and spending time with their horses. Sherrie and her father Cecil, mother Joy, brothers Robert and Scout lived in the Coalfield Camp area along with many relatives and friends.

She loved spending time with her grandmother Anna Francis Jackson, which is the lady who taught Sherrie how to cook, both ladies where fabulous in the kitchen. Sherrie displayed her love for children in our home as a mother, grandmother and in the Morgan County School cafeteria programs at Petros-Joyner School, Wartburg Middle School, Coalfield School, and the Morgan County summer feeding programs. Her wish was for every child to have a seat at the table.

Attending Sunday School and Church Meetings at Mt. Pisgah was joyful. Participating in Church visitation programs throughout the community was a blessing. Sherrie and her brother Scott also worked at the Mt. Pisgah print shop. Sherrie was a Majorette in the 1983 Coalfield High School Marching Band; she loved when the band performed under the lights at Friday night football games and during band competition events competing with other schools.

Sherrie married David Wayne McGhee June 23rd, 1985, and gave birth to their daughter Maggie October 24th, 1988.

Sherrie is preceded in death by her granddaughter Charli-Beth 12/23/11 – 2/10/12. Her parents Cecil and Joy Jackson.

Survived by her Husband David Wayne McGhee, Daughter Maggie and Son-in-law Chuck, very special granddaughter Maddi-Beth.

Sherrie’s final hour ended Tuesday evening at 9:25 pm at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, TN where Sherrie gave gifts of Life through DCI Doner Services by donating Kidney’s, Liver, Heart Valves, Corneas, Skin, Nerves and Bone Murrow, Hallelujah.

Sherrie was transferred while Maggie and David Wayne walked the last few steps with her from Room #18 of the Critical Care Unit, down the hallway that was lined with people giving her their upmost respect for the kindness she was displaying as we journeyed to the operating room. We were humbled and honored within that final hour.

Graveside services will be held Friday February 7, 2025, at 11:00 A.M.  in the Western Cemetery, Coalfield, Tn
