Shirley Ann Moran, 91

Shirley Ann Moran, age 91 of Allardt, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at the Signature Health Care of Fentress Co.

Shirley was born February 11, 1933, to Annetta Gernt and Robert Fisher Turner of Allardt, Tennessee. She attended Allardt Elementary and York Institute where she graduated as Salutatorian. She received a BA Degree from Middle Tennessee State University and furthered her studies in Education at Peabody College. She received her Masters Degree from the University of Houston.

Shirley taught Secondary English in San Diego, California where she met and married Bill Moran. Soon after, William Mitchell was born in San Diego, CA, and Stephanie Ann was born in Santa Barbara, CA. Shirley, Bill, and the children moved to LaPorte, TX where she taught at La Porte High School for 10 years. Later, Shirley moved back home to Allardt, Tennessee, and taught English at York Institute.

She was a member of Allardt Presbyterian Church where she served as Elder and President of United Presbyterian Women. She was an active member of the Fentress County Retired Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma teachers’ honorary.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and son, Mitchell; brother, Robert Neal Turner; niece, Kimberly Ann Upchurch.

She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie; sister, Nancy Upchurch, and husband Ralph; sister-in-law, Judy Turner; and daughter-in-law, Wendy Moran. She is also survived by three grandchildren, William Bradley Moran and wife Claire, Lauren Moran Crowley, and Blake Alexander Moran. She is blessed with six great-grandchildren, Kenneth Ryland Moran, Madileigh James Moran, William Mitchell Moran, Avie Kate Moran, Harper Michelle Crowley, and Henlee Morgan Crowley.

A memorial service for Shirley will be held at the Allardt Presbyterian Church on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Allardt Presbyterian Church, Best Friends Sanctuary, or the Fentress County Food Bank.

Jennings Funeral Homes of Jamestown is in charge of the cremation and the family is in charge of the services for Shirley Ann Moran of Allardt.
