Shirley Faye Hughey Rector, age 88 of Dayton, passed peacefully at her home on Saturday, August 22, 2026.

She is survived by her husband, Charlie “Sonny” Rector, Jr. and daughter Renita Rector Archey (Jeff). Also, her sister, Glema Hughey Walker and several nieces and nephews.

She moved to Dayton when she was twelve years old and broke the rules when, in high school, the Rhea Central homecoming queen fell in love with a Spring City Bulldog. They spent the next 69 years living, loving, and serving God in their community. They moved 32 times but never left Dayton. Her goal was to be a Christian wife and mother above all. She passed quietly into eternity after suffering from Alzheimer’s.

Her visitation is Tuesday, August 25, 2026, from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM with her life’s celebration to follow at 1:00 PM. Both visitation and service will be at Vanderwall Funeral Home conducted by Jeff Archey and Steve Brown. Interment is at Rhea Memory Gardens with Matthew Higginbotham presiding.
