Shirley June Woods passed peacefully, surrounded by her family, on March 21, 2026. She was born April 7, 1947. She was a graduate of Wartburg Central High School, Class of 1965. She was a Special Education teacher at Petros Joyner Elementary School for many years, where she taught with kindness, love, and compassion, making sure all of her students felt understood. She was a loving grandmother to all 6 of her grandkids and her great-granddaughter, all of whom she loved spending time with.

She was preceded in death by her mother: Veina “Mae” McCoy; infant brother: George William McCoy; and infant sister: “Baby Girl” McCoy.

She is survived by her husband: Noah “Junior” Woods; sister: Veina Marlow; brother: Richard McCoy; sons: Terry (Wilma) Woods and Jason (Lorie Rainey) Woods; grandchildren: Tamira Woods, Jailynn Woods, Teegan Woods, Dawson White, Aaron White, and Grayson Woods; great-granddaughter: Autumn Woods; nephew: Mike (Tina) McCoy; great-nephew; Joe McCoy; niece: Haley (Jesse) Laymance; and great-niece and nephew: Olivia and Jaxson Laymance.

The family will receive friends Monday, March 23, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg with the funeral to follow. The graveside service will immediately follow at Union Cemetery in Joyner.
