STONE MEMORIAL ETHICS DEBATE TEAM GOES TO FIRST COMPETITION
Frome Stone Memorial High School:
The SMHS Ethics Debate Team had their first competition last Saturday.
The THSEB was hosted at Webb School of Knoxville on Saturday, Feb 1st. While we had plenty of information about what an Ethics Bowl might be like and what topics would be discussed, none of us had ever participated in one before. This team jumped right in and won their first of four “seeding” rounds and also won an extra “consolation” round. They were up against teams that were often private academies from Knoxville to Nashville. Other publics schools involved were Farragut High and Bearden High. The judges that would ask questions during the rounds were graduate students and professors of Philosophy at the University of Tennessee. They even had a match against the team that won the championship that day and put up a good fight. Most importantly they learned a lot about what an Ethics Bowl is like and are excited about doing it again next year.If you see any of these students, ask them about their experience and congratulate them on being part of a first for SMHS at the Tennessee High School Ethics Bowl.
