SULLIVAN COUNTY RECYCLING PLANT CLOSING; KNOXVILLE NOW CLOSEST FACILITY

When Tri-Cities Waste Paper in Kingsport closes Friday, it’ll leave Sullivan County without a plant to handle paper and plastic recycling.

Asheville Waste Paper, Tri-Cities’ parent company, has not commented on the closure. It’s the second such recycling-plant closure in the past 12 months; the other one was in Bristol.

Now, the closest plant that accepts both paper and plastic is in Knoxville. Other dual-material recycling facilities are in Roanoke, Virginia, and Asheville, North Carolina.
