Tennessee students could soon earn school credit for learning how to hunt safely.

Lawmakers have passed legislation that would allow schools to offer hunter education courses to students in grades 5 through 12 as part of physical education, health, or safety classes.

The bills now head to Governor Bill Lee for final approval.

If signed into law, the courses would be approved by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) and would satisfy the state’s required hunter safety certification.

If approved, the classes would be optional and integrated into existing coursework.
