TN DEPT. OF COMMERCE AND INSURANCE WARNS AGAINST FIREWORKS RISKS

The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance warned people today to consider the risks that fireworks can cause to their personal safety, property, and finances.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, fireworks are responsible for eight deaths and over $9,700 injuries last year. And over 135 fires were started by fireworks costing over $930,000 worth of damage, according to Tennessee fire departments.

The Department of Commerce says the safest way to celebrate New Year’s is to attend a public fireworks display run and handled by trusted and trained professionals.

They also warned that if people must use consumer fireworks they first familiarize themselves with fireworks laws and some municipalities have restrictions regarding fireworks usage. Consumers are also urged to follow safety guidelines and warnings.
