TN FLU CASES SEE DECREASE COMPARED TO 2023-24 SEASON
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Flu season is among us and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is seeing a gradual increase in cases, according to Fluview.
According to a weekly flu surveillance report from the CDC, Tennessee is one of the states with moderately high rates of flu cases.
In Middle Tennessee, the state is seeing moderate outpatient visits with 3.1% in both the Mid Cumberland Region and the Nashville Davidson County Metro Region. According to the state, the South Central Region is seeing the least amount of cases with 0.0% of outpatient visits.
So far this flu season, the state has only reported one outbreak in the Southeast Region involving two or more people in a shared setting.
The CDC reports that more than 10% of outpatient visits nationally have been for children 0-4 years old.
The CDC said that despite increasing flu cases, the number of cases remains low nationally.
According to Tennessee, flu cases have seen a decrease around this time of year. In 2023, the state reported that 5% of the state’s population had the flu during the week of Nov. 26, 2023, through Dec. 2, 2023.
In 2024, for the week of Nov. 24 through Nov. 30, the state has reported that 3.8% of the state’s population has had influenza-like illness.
