TROPICAL DEPRESSION COULD FORM NEAR FLORIDA
A tropical depression is “likely to form” near Florida in the next day or so and move into the Gulf of Mexico over the weekend, National Hurricane Center forecasters said last night.
Invest 95L — the area of “widespread cloudiness and showers extending from the southeastern Bahamas northward over the southwestern Atlantic for a few hundred miles” — has a 70% chance of formation in the next day or two, forecasters say.
An Air Force Reserve reconnaissance aircraft is scheduled to investigate the system this afternoon.
If the system strengthens to a tropical storm, it will be named Humberto.
