TWO BILLS INTRODUCED WITH HOPE TO LEGALIZE MARIJUANA

Yesterday, the Tennessee Cannabis Act (SB 0809) was introduced by Senator Jeff Yarbro of Nashville to allow for personal or recreational marijuana usage.

This bill would also create rules for dispensaries regarding the distribution, sale, or production of cannabis-based products. The limitations on this act allow for someone over the age of 21 to own and even transport marijuana but no more than 60 grams.

Under this law, individuals would also be permitted to grow and sell cannabis products.

Accompanying this bill was House Bill HB 0872, also known as the Tennessee medical cannabis Act, which would authorize the usage of medical cannabis on a regulated basis for those with medical conditions that it could help. This bill would also allow for production, sale, and distribution.

The bill itself says that its purpose is to “increase low-cost public health options, alleviate suffering, develop agricultural business, and incentivize research of THC benefits, and expeditiously license and track medical cannabis from cultivation to point of sale within the boundaries of this state.”
