TWO DEPUTIES IN HAMILTON COUNTY SHOT AFTER PURSUIT INVOLVING KIDNAPPED CHILD

Law enforcement says two Hamilton County, Tennessee deputies sustained a gunshot wound after a high-speed pursuit involving a kidnapped 18-month-old child and an armed suspect from Catoosa County, Georgia.

The pursuit ended after Hamilton County deputies successfully used a spike strip and stopped the suspect’s vehicle near the I-75 Ooltewah exit.

The sheriff’s office says shots were fired between the suspect and deputies immediately after the maneuver. The suspect died at the scene.

The two deputies went to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The baby involved was not hurt. The child was transported to a hospital for review.

“While it is early in the investigative phase of this incident, it is apparent this individual was intent on getting away from authorities and didn’t care who he endangered in the process. I am grateful the child is safe. Our deputies only sustained non-life-threatening injuries. This incident highlights the incredible dangers our officers face each day while performing their duties. I am honored to serve alongside the brave men and women of the HCSO as they protect and serve our community,” Said Sheriff Austin Garrett.

The TBI is investigating the incident.
