U.S. POSTAL SERVICE WARNING ABOUT EMAIL SCAM

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is warning citizens about an email scam resurfacing that could put your finances and personal information at risk.

The email states a package has arrived at the warehouse and cannot be delivered due to incomplete address information. There’s a link there too and they want you to use it to confirm your information within 12 hours.

Officials say if you click it, you could activate a virus that can steal your personal information, such as usernames, passwords, and financial account numbers that are stored on your computer or your mobile device.

The USPS sent the following ways to spot emails like this and prevent phishing attacks:

· Verify the email address: it might look like it’s from a legitimate company, but one strange character in the URL can spell trouble;

· Never click on the links delivered in suspicious emails;

· Use strong and unique passwords for your online accounts;

· Never provide your personal or financial information online unless you know who you are dealing with.
