UNIVERSITY STUDENT FROM SPRING CITY WINS H.N. BERGER AWARD

The H.N. Berger Award honors a student from the senior class at University of the Cumberlands who demonstrates outstanding leadership and service to the University and to the larger community as a whole. Recipient must also demonstrate sound academic achievements.

This year’s recipient is Joseph “Tyler” Pendleton. Tyler is the son of Jeff and Bobbie Pendleton and is a native of Spring City, Tennessee. He graduated in December of 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in biology. He was a resident hall assistant. Tyler came to Cumberlands to be a part of the football team and has received numerous awards. He has been selected as an NAIA All-American Honorable Mention, CoSIDA Academic All-American, Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Wendy’s Athlete of the Month for the month of October, Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week four times, and All-Mid Conference three times. Tyler was a member of the Pre-Health Club, a teaching assistant for Microbiology Lab Prep, and an active participant in intramural basketball. His summer activities include working at Plateau Pediatrics Clinical as an administrative assistant. He lists his hobbies as scuba diving, fitness, personal health, Jiu-Jitsu, hunting, fishing, and horseback riding. Tyler’s future plans include attending the LMU-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he has been accepted. Tyler will begin his studies in August 2020.
