Verna Hughes Jordan, 92
Verna Hughes Jordan, age 92 of Hickory, North Carolina, and formerly of Rhea County, passed away at UNC Health Blue Ridge in Morganton, North Carolina, on Saturday, September 14, 2024. She was born in Evensville, Tennessee, on March 31, 1932, the daughter of the late John Howard and Lenis (Thurman) Hughes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Stan Jordan; her sons, Robert Jordan and Jerry Jordan; her brothers, Homer Hughes, Donnie Hughes, and Clay Hughes; her sisters, Dorothy Blaylock, Bernice Godsey, and Carolyn Hughes; and her two grandsons, Ronnie Jordan, Jr. and Mikey Jordan.
Verna was born in Evensville, Tennessee, lived in the Wolf Creek community, and more recently lived in Morganton and Hickory, North Carolina. She loved making quilts and crafts and was of the Church of Christ faith.
Verna is survived by her four daughters, Sharon (Brett) Citsay and Hester Burkhalter, both of Hickory, NC, and Sheila Jordan and Janice Grider, both of Morganton, NC; her three sons, Ronnie Jordan of Spring City, and Michael (Tammy) Jordan and Lonnie (Pam) Jordan, both of Casar, NC; her brother, Rev. Junior (June) Hughes of Ten Mile; her two sisters, Darlene (David) Pelfrey of Spring City and Brenda Williams of Evensville Mountain; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service for Verna will be on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 12:00 noon (EDT) at Hughes Family Cemetery in Bledsoe County with her brother Rev. Junior Hughes officiating.
