Verna Jean (Knox) Nail known as “Sis” to many passed from this life, March 20, 2022, to her eternal home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and many family members awaiting her arrival. She was born to James Whitley and Alberta Harris Knox, September 2, 1927, the second of six children. Verna Jean was very young when her mother passed away leaving a huge void to fill helping her father with a large family. Folks of her generation did not know the meaning of “give up” and she never did give up.

Faith and family meant everything to her, this being a true testament to the Greatest Generation. She married Carl Nail shortly after his return from WWII, on March 8, 1946. While holding many jobs throughout her life such as teaching school at Crab Orchard in the 1940’s, to caring for many patients at Cumberland Medical Center in the 70’s through the 90’s, she stood ready to help someone at any time.

She was also a former longtime member of the Homestead Baptist Church in Crossville, TN and was currently a member of Farragut Christian Church in Farragut, TN. She will surely be missed.

In addition to her father and mother, she was preceded in death by her husband- Carl Nail, sisters- Melba Knox Smith, Virginia Knox Jarvis and Barbara June Knox and brothers- Ralph Steven Knox and Russell Knox.

She is survived by son- Ronnie Nail and his wife Mickey, daughter- Karen O’Hara and her husband Frank and grandchildren- Lynsey Nail Gass and her husband Tyler, Kristen Ward, Kristy Gilbert, Scott O’Hara, Frank O’Hara, Lauren Mears and Katie O’Hara. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.

Funeral services will be held Thursday March 24, 2022, at 1pm at Hood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11am-1pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Harris Cemetery.
