Vernice Elizabeth Pruitt Cordell, age 77 of Pikeville, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2026. Liz was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family and having family get-togethers. She loved taking vacations to the beach with her kids. She was of the Baptist Faith and loved her fur baby and best friend Doodle.

Preceding Liz in death was her husband, Larry Cordell; parents, William and Betty Jean Howser Pruitt; brothers, Sam, Dennis, Henry, Royce, and Ralph Pruitt.

Liz will be dearly missed by her daughters, Sandy Colvard and Betty Blaylock; sons, Tony (Cindy) Cordell and David (Kim) Pruitt; nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, one great-great grandson; special niece, Betty Ann Thurman; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

A celebration of Liz’s life will be held at 3:00pm CDT Wednesday, August12, 2026 in the Pikeville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jacob Knowles and Bro. Wesley Walker officiating. Burial will be in the Pikeville City Cemetery. Those serving as pallbearers are Andrew Smith, Nick Smith, Tanner Cordell, Cory Bowman, Brayden Myers, Kenneth Pruitt, Cameron Browning, and Rij Whitson. The family will receive friends 12:00pm-8:00pm Tuesday, August 11, 2026 and 11:00am until service time Wednesday at Pikeville Funeral Home.
