William “Bill” Schaefer, 84

William “Bill” Schaefer passed away on January 7, 2025 at the age of 84 at his home in Decatur, TN. His battle with serious medical issues in the past showed his tremendous courage in facing life’s challenges. Despite the pain, Bill stayed strong until the end.  He was born in Martinsburg, WV on November 21, 1940 to Edna Pauline “Polly” and Harold Albert Schaefer. His parents afterwards moved to Reisterstown, MD and most of his childhood years were spent there.
After graduating from high school at Oak Park Academy in Nevada, IA, he attended Union College in Lincoln, NE, where he obtained an Associate’s Degree in Education.
In 1961 he married Barbara Remery and together they had two children, a son, William Scott and a daughter, Laurie Ann.
Later in Life in 1995 he married Sharon Cox, who loving remained by his side until death.
He worked in Maintenance most of his working years and also did some home construction, building one home for his family and two for his parents.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Sharon , son Bill (Shondra) Schaefer, daughter Laurie (Tony) Boiardi, step-sons Tim (Traci) Cox and Ken (Mei Hsuah) Cox, and sister Gail Wooten, along with 12 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Bill had an unwavering faith in God and was a man of strong moral principles, who truly loved the Lord.
He enjoyed an unpretentious life and was content with what he had and always saw the good in people.
He was eager to help anyone however he could and had a special talent of knowing how to fix things.
Some of his favorite times were spent working with his grandfather on his farm and he has always enjoyed farm life.
He loved to talk about tractors and the putt-putt sound of an old John Deere was like music to his ears.
He was an inspiration to all who knew him and was admired by many. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2025, in the Walnut Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Williams officiating.
