William Richard “Bill” Shuburg, 87

William Richard “Bill” Shuburg, 87, of Crossville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2025, surrounded by his family.   He was born on October 27, 1938, in Linary, Tennessee.

Bill was the most devoted father and the most loving “Poppy.”  He served in the United States Navy from October 17, 1961, to September 30, 1965, and later retired from the United States Postal Service.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn Shuburg Saltkill, and her husband Kevin Saltkill of Clinton, TN; his granddaughter Kassandra Looschen-Pribanich, and her husband Steven Alex Pribanich of Huntington, WV; his sisters Joanne Matheny of Crossville, TN, and Wilma Hager (Dorris) of Old Hickory, TN; his nephews and nieces, Gordon L. Houston (Sandy), Scott Houston (Carlotta), Lisa Wood (Lowell), and Laura Simmons (Ray); and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. He also leaves behind dear lifelong neighbors and friends, Bobby and Pat Sherrill.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents Gordon and Kathleen Hyder; his birth parents William R. Shuburg and Reba Winningham Shuburg; his son William Stuart Shuburg; his former wife and beloved friend Elizabeth (Betty) Shuburg; his brother Willard Shuburg; and his sister Irene Shuburg Roy.

Bill loved being outdoors—gardening, canning, and cooking. He enjoyed playing his guitar and he was a dedicated Atlanta Braves fan who never left home without his cap on.  Most of all, his greatest joy was being with his granddaughter Kassie. Nothing made him happier than time spent with his little bear.

His life was filled with quiet strength, steadfast love, and simple joys—and he will be missed beyond measure.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
