Worth J. Carlson, 79

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Worth J. Carlson on August 29, 2023, at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. Worth was a beloved husband, brother, uncle, friend, and dedicated member of his community. He walked into the arms of Jesus at the age of 79, with his wife of 34 years holding his hand and his sister-in-law, Lyssa Haddock, by his side.

Worth was born on August 18, 1944, in Pierre, South Dakota, and his journey through life was marked by a profound commitment to his country and his faith. After serving his nation as a member of the U.S. Air Force for four years, Worth retired from Cut-n-Core (San Diego, CA) in 1999, moving to Crossville, Tennessee where he worked for Dave Kirk Chevrolet for the next 20 years. He found his spiritual home at Central Baptist Church. There, he served as a faithful member, and for an impressive 24 years, he held the role of Captain and Usher, offering his warm smile and helping hand to all who entered the church’s doors.

Worth’s love extended beyond the walls of the church, as he shared 34 wonderful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Vicki Carlson, in Crossville, Tennessee. Their partnership was a testament to love, trust, and companionship that enriched both of their lives.

Worth was not only a loving husband but also a caring brother. He is survived by his sisters, Linda Wicks and Julie VanValkenburg, and his brothers, David Carlson (Kathy) and Jerome Carlson (Cathy), all residing in Duluth, Minnesota. Additionally, Worth leaves behind a legacy in the hearts of extended family, including a brother and sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

Worth J. Carlson was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Roberta Carlson, and brother C.J. Carlson, but his memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Funeral services to celebrate Worth’s life will be held at Central Baptist Church in Crossville, Tennessee, on Saturday, September 9, 2023. Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to the Central Baptist Church Christmas Toy Store ministry, a cause close to Worth’s heart, which reflects his spirit of generosity and love for his community.
