18 DOGS RESCUED FROM HOME FILLED WITH BLACK MOLD AND FECES IN WHITE COUNTY

Deputy Hunt responded to a report of possible animal cruelty in the northwest end of the county. After speaking with the complainant, who described inhumane living conditions for numerous animals, the deputy proceeded to the residence and made contact with Cathleen Turns. She acknowledged having many dogs inside and admitted the conditions were terrible.

From more than 20 feet away, Deputy Hunt could smell a strong foul odor emanating from the home and heard continuous barking. An investigation revealed 18 dogs (10 large breeds and 8 puppies) living inside, with the interior covered in animal feces, a pervasive strong odor, and black mold on the ceilings. Animal Control was contacted and took custody of all 18 dogs, transporting them to their facility.

Eighteen citations were issued, a court date was set, and Deputy Hunt plans to request that the court prohibit Ms. Turns (Burns) from owning or possessing animals in the future to protect additional animals.

The White County Sheriff’s Office noted that this remains an active judicial matter and that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
