SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR MIDDLE AND EAST TENNESSEE THIS WEEKEND

Tennessee residents should brace for a significant weather event this weekend, as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Nashville and Morristown has issued multiple alerts, including a Flood Watch, Wind Advisory, and Severe Thunderstorm Warnings across Middle and East Tennessee.

Middle Tennessee: Heavy Rain, Strong Winds, and Severe Storms Expected

A Flood Watch remains in effect through Sunday morning for portions of Middle Tennessee. Forecasters predict an additional 2 to 4 inches of rainfall, with localized amounts reaching 5 to 7 inches in northwest Middle Tennessee. Flooding of rivers, creeks, and roads is expected, and officials urge residents to remain vigilant.

Adding to the concern, a Wind Advisory is in effect from midnight tonight to noon CST Sunday, bringing sustained winds of 15 to 20 mph and gusts up to 40 mph. With saturated ground conditions, the risk of downed trees and power outages remains high.

A line of strong to severe thunderstorms is forecasted to move through Middle Tennessee overnight. Damaging winds and tornadoes will be the primary threats, with the highest risk west of Interstate 24. The Storm Prediction Center has classified parts of Middle Tennessee under a Slight to Enhanced Risk for severe storms, indicating the potential for multiple dangerous weather events.

East Tennessee: Wind Advisory, Flood Watch, and Severe Weather Risks

A Wind Advisory is in effect from midnight EST (11 PM CST) tonight to noon EST (11 AM CST) Sunday, with southwest winds of 15 to 30 mph and gusts up to 45 mph. In higher elevations, mountain wave winds could gust up to 70 mph, leading to a High Wind Warning for the Tennessee mountains and foothills. Power outages and fallen trees are expected in these areas.

The northern Cumberland Plateau is expected to receive over 2 inches of rainfall through Sunday morning, increasing the potential for significant flooding, road closures, and mudslides. A Flood Watch remains in effect for the area.

Southern East Tennessee has been placed under a Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms Saturday night, with damaging winds as the primary threat.
