2.4 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE REPORTED CENTERED 10 MILES EAST OF SPRING CITY
A 2.4 magnitude earthquake was reported in Meigs County early this morning. The U.S. Geological Survey says the center of the quake took place about 10 miles east of Spring City. In the East Tennessee Seismic Zone, there have been over 200 earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 or greater since measurements began in the 1970’s. The strongest earthquake on record for this region was a magnitude 4.7 in Maryville in 1973.
