21 TORNADOES RECORDED IN MIDDLE TENNESSEE SO FAR THIS YEAR
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Nashville has confirmed a total of 21 tornadoes in Middle Tennessee for the year, as reported by WSMV. Following recent storm activity, the NWS completed damage surveys and identified five additional tornadoes that struck the region on May 20.
According to NWS Nashville, the majority of these tornadoes have been relatively weak, classified as EF-0 or EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, which indicates minimal to moderate damage with wind speeds up to 110 mph. Only two tornadoes this year have exceeded the EF-1 rating, suggesting stronger winds and more significant damage.
This high number of tornadoes underscores an active storm season in Middle Tennessee, though the region has been fortunate that most events have caused limited destruction.
