50 MPH WIND TODAY, FREEZE SUNDAY
Area gardeners need to be prepared this weekend as temperatures could dip to 29 degrees with frost on both Sunday morning and again Monday morning. Mostly dry weather and lots of sunshine through the weekend and I see us soaring into the 70s by Tuesday.
Wednesday was about as windy of a day as you will see with gusts to 50 mph even though we had partly sunny skies and no rain in the area. We picked up just under an inch of rain Tuesday night as that system moved in and we were lucky as the tornadoes stayed in Alabama.
Severe weather season is upon us and will be through May, The most likely months for tornadoes is April and May in our County but they can occur in any month. Statistics show that about 70% of the tornadoes touching down here come between noon and 9 p.m. in the evening. You can see that daylight and the Heat of the day is one of the main fuel sources for severe weather. Tornadoes when the temperature is below 65 degrees are rather rare.
March 17th 1892, the biggest snowfall in the history of Tennessee weather records as 17 inches fell in Nashville and almost 19 inches was measured just Northwest of Carthage.
