6-YEAR-OLD CHILD BROUGHT LOADED FIREARM TO VIRGINIA SCHOOL
On September 16, 2024, at approximately 12:50 pm, an Orange County Sheriff’s Office SRO was contacted by Orange Elementary School staff about a loaded firearm that was found inside the school. The school was placed in safe school mode. The SRO and a School Administrator took possession of the backpack that contained the firearm. The investigation has revealed that a 6-year-old student brought the firearm on campus where it was found by an instructional assistant. Nobody was injured and no threats were made prior to the discovery of the firearm.
The Orange County Sheriff’s office is investigating this incident. No arrests have been made at this point, but the investigation is ongoing. All students at OES are safe at this time. The safety and security of our students and school staff remain our top priority.
Out of an abundance of caution we will have additional law enforcement at the school for the remainder of today and tomorrow.
No further details will be released pending the outcome of the investigation.
