9TH D.A. GENERAL LOOKING INTO CHANGING HOW TO PAY BOND

9th District Attorney General Russell Johnson is looking into possibly allowing people arrested to bond directly to the court system instead of using a bonding agency.
The Roane County News is reporting Johnson, a member of the Tennessee District Attorney General’s Conference, stated in the article they would like to make it easier for people charged with a crime to put up cash with the court for their bond instead of paying a bonding company.
He stated the benefit for defendants in arraignment is that if the person is found not guilty or they agree to dismiss the case or some of their charges, they can get that money back or see it go towards their fines.
District Attorney General Johnson said otherwise if they are convicted it can it can go to pay their fines, court costs, and restitution to victims when they pay a bonding company. He says for that service, the money can never get back to the individuals even if they are found not guilty.
