NATIONAL DRUG TAKEBACK EVENT SET FOR APRIL 27 IN THE KROGER PARKING LOT

Cumberland County Rising, a Crossville-based coalition dedicated to educating the community about issues that affect the community, including addiction, is partnering with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office in the National Drug Takeback Day observance.

Citizens can drop off prescription medications in the Kroger parking lot on Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The service is free and drugs will be destroyed under guidelines of the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Cumberland County Chief Deputy Bill Ashley told the coalition since 2015, when the sheriff’s office became involved in the takeback program, 8,200 pounds of medication has been properly disposed of.

Other programs sponsored by Cumberland County Rising this year include Prevention in the Park, tentatively scheduled for June 8 at the new splash pad off Fourth Street, and participation in the Tennessee Teen Institute leadership conference.

Cumberland County has also been invited to send students and an adult chaperone – at no cost to the county – to a student conference that teaches skills, strategic planning and what it means to be a part of the coalition.
