SUSPECT IN CUSTODY AFTER SHOTS FIRED AT McMINN COUNTY DEPUTIES

McMinn County authorities say a man is in custody after firing at  deputies around 8:30 Monday night.

Deputies responded to a report of a suspect shooting at a relative, said to be trying to steal a car on Highway 39 West, near Riceville.

They say 37-year-old Nicholas Boyd Nunley pointed a gun at them, sped away on County Road 73 and engaged them in a pursuit. Shortly afterward, Nunley exited his car and, while fleeing on foot, fired several shots at deputies. One deputy sustained a minor injury to a leg and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Nunley then barricaded himself in a building.

After a two-hour standoff, deputies managed to take Nunley into custody. Nunley is no stranger to McMinn County authorities, with more than 10 prior arrests.
