(WZTV Nashville) Officials are shedding some light on a “zombie snake” that tends to play dead, but then “may strike repeatedly.”

North Carolina State Parks and Recreation shared photos of the “famous” snake on its Facebook page. But, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency says the eastern hog-nosed snake can actually be found in the Volunteer state. The best places to spot them are areas with sandy soil, including floodplains or hillsides.

NCPR is alerting residents to be on the lookout for this snake, which defends itself by lying on its back and playing dead.
