Athens, Tennessee police responded yesterday afternoon to a residence on Delmar Street to talk to a 18-year-old woman who was “concerned and wanted to speak to police.” After talking to her and finding there was no law enforcement action to be taken, officers spoke with her boyfriend in the front yard while she went back into the residence.

Police heard a noise a short time later from inside the home and entered the dwelling to find a young lady with a gunshot wound. She was transported to a hospital where she passed away.

The Athens Police Department requested the TBI take over the investigation.
