The Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals has denied a post-conviction relief for a White County man convicted of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse. Joshua Taylor Iceman of Sparta was found guilty by a jury in the death of his 8-week-old daughter, Taylor Madison Iceman, in 2011. Joshua Iceman was 21 at the time of the incident. The infant was airlifted to T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained back on September 3, 2011. She passed away two days later. Joshua Iceman was later sentenced to life in prison.

In the post-conviction relief filed, Iceman says his lawyer should have attempted to suppress his statements to police. Judge J. Ross Dyer ruled that Iceman failed to prove the claim.

Post-conviction relief is a procedure that allows the defendant in a criminal case to bring more evidence or raise additional issues in a case after a judgment has been made.
