Polk County court officials say 47-year-old John Scott Ball of Etowah was sentenced yesterday in court for the murder of his father. A judge sentenced him to life in prison.

Ball shot and killed John H. Ball last year. The suspect cut up his father and then attempted to burn them at a location off Old Furnace Road in Monroe County. Hikers discovered the remains of the victim who was cut up in 11 separate pieces.

An autopsy revealed John H. Ball died from a gunshot wound to the head.
