Mrs. Lillian B. Shelton of Burkesville, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024, at her residence in Burkesville, Kentucky, having attained the age of 85 years, 4 months, and 11 days. She was born on Saturday, April 29, 1939, in Mercer County, Kentucky, the daughter of Charlie & Viola (Sallee) McGinnis, she was adopted by Frank & Eddie Burch of Crab Orchard, Kentucky where she was raised. She was of the Baptist faith, a member of the Crab Orchard Baptist Church until moving to Burkesville then moved membership to The Burkesville Baptist Church, having been a church Pianist for over 50 years at the two churches combined, also taught Sunday School, and was willing to do any job needed in the church, worked for the Commonwealth of Kentucky in the Stanford department of community-based services, ran a flower shop, and being married to the Mayor, was first lady of Crab Orchard for a while, and was employed in later years at McKnight Funeral Home in Crab Orchard. In her free time, Lillian enjoyed spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip E. Shelton, whom she wed on Saturday, June 19, 1959, and siblings, James McGinnis, Jessie McGinnis, Sue Coffman, & Betty Yocum.
She is survived by her sons, Phillip E. (& Rolanda) Shelton of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Dr. Mark (& Maribeth) Shelton of Burkesville, Kentucky, and siblings, Sara Lear of Radcliff, Kentucky, Bro. Gilbert Robinson of Somerset, Kentucky, grandchildren, Brandon (& April) Shelton, Aaron Shelton, Zachary (& Julie) Shelton, Tyler (& Tabatha) Shelton, great-grandchildren, Addison, Alexis, Andrew, Beckett, Sadie, Beau, Piper, Saylor, & Sawyer.
The funeral service will be conducted on Friday, September 13, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. C.S.T. at the Burkesville Baptist Church in Burkesville, Kentucky with Dr. Mark Shelton, Bro. Montel Richardson & Bro. Dennis Sells officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 13, 2024, at the Burkesville Baptist Church beginning at 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. C.S.T. A second visitation will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024, beginning at 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. E.S.T. with a brief service to follow at The McKnight Funeral Home in Crab Orchard, Kentucky with Burial in the Crab Orchard Cemetery in Lincoln County, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, contributions appreciated to Burkesville Baptist Church or the Gideon’s Memorial Bible Plan.
