ROANE STATE CELEBRATES CONSTITUTION DAY NEXT WEEK
September 17, 2024, is designated as Constitution Day and Citizenship Day to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787. To celebrate, Roane State’s Oak Ridge Campus will host several exhibits and events leading up to Constitution Day.
The Oak Ridge Library currently features an interactive book display which includes the opportunity to try the U.S. Citizenship exam.
“The Bill of Rights and You,” a poster exhibit from the National Archives, will also be on display outside the library, along with a larger-than-life copy of the Constitution for viewing and photo opportunities.
The two weeks of celebration will culminate on September 17 with a campus voter registration drive sponsored by Student Life, and a lecture that evening on the history of the Constitution by Adjunct Professor David Adkins, presented by the Arts and Lectures Committee.
The lecture, titled “The U.S. Constitution: Its People and Process,” will be held in the City Room (A-111 in the Coffey/McNally Building) at 6 p.m. ET and will delve into the formation and initial processes that shaped one of the most significant and enduring documents in American history.
Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a post-lecture Q&A session with Professor Adkins.
Voter registration events are also scheduled for additional campuses on September 17 as part of National Voter Registration Day. Details on those campus-specific events are posted on the Student Life page.
