I-40 GOING TO NORTH CAROLINA CLOSED INDEFINITELY

A post on TDOT’s website indicates Interstate 40 near Pigeon Forge and Greeneville going toward North Carolina may not open again until 2028. This is due to mudslides and washed-out infrastructure from Hurricane Helene.
The notification reads:
“I-40 is closed in both directions [43 miles] between exit 432 (US 25 W/US 70/US 411) in Tennessee and Exit 20 (US 276) in North Carolina. This is a long-term closure, the estimated clearance time is unknown. Expected impact to traffic is high.”
