The Kingston City Council said a farewell to outgoing councilwoman Stephanie Wright during their meeting on Tuesday.
Wright has served the city for 8 years and was honored with a plaque of recognition by Mayor Tim Neal and other council members last night who spoke very well of Ms. Wright and her service to the city.
During last week’s election, Incumbents Vice Mayor Tony Brown and Tommy Guinn were unopposed and re-elected along with a new council member, David Reeder, who will be replacing Ms. Wright’s position. Reeder also ran unopposed as Wright didn’t seek re-election during this year’s Elections.
Wright gave some final words on her Facebook page which read:
“Yesterday was my last city council meeting, so I wanted to give some thanks. Even though it is a bittersweet day for me, I feel profound gratitude, pride, and, above all, humility for the journey we’ve shared together.
Serving my community has been one of the greatest honors of my life. It has been a privilege to advocate for change, support initiatives close to my heart, and witness the real, meaningful impact of our work. But this journey would not have been possible without the city of Kingston employees. Nothing that I accomplished over the last 10 years would have happened without the dedicated, talented individuals who have worked tirelessly to turn those visions into reality. David, Kelly, Michelle, Kevin, Tim, Jim, Willie, Barbara, Lyndsay, Tony, Andrew, and J.R. Thanks to you and your employees for the late nights, sacrificed weekends, and devotion to the work we believe in.
To the council members that I have served with, thank you for challenging me. The debates, discussions, and differing viewpoints only sharpened my focus and made my work stronger. You pushed me to be a better leader, and for that, I am deeply grateful.
As I enter this next chapter of life, I do so with confidence and pride—not only in the achievements we’ve made together but in the people that remain and continue to do the work. The City of Kingston has a bright future, and I am so excited to see where your talents and dedication take us.
Though I am stepping away, my belief in the power of public service remains as strong as ever.”
